Saturday 23rd April 2011 marked the first live show which would result in an elimination! Stephanie was paired with contemporary dancer Ryan, and they both stepped well outside of their comfort zone to perform a commercial dance, choreographed by Paul Domaine to ‘Dance the Night Away’ by Jennifer Lopez, featuring Pitbull. Steph and Ryan had the very responsible task of opening the show, and delivered a solid performance. The judges had their claws out however, with some tough comments to begin the series. Sisco kept it real and showed his support for Stephanie by rounding out the judges comments with:

Steph was cheered on the crowd by some of her closest supporters, and her Facebook groups were going into overdrive encouraging everyone to VOTE STEPH!

The results show opened with a group number chorgraphed by Yael Naim to ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears. After a tense reveal of the results by Cat Deeley, Stephanie and Ryan were very disappointingly announced in the bottom two couples, along with Paige and Gian Luca.

Each dancer now competes for themselves with a 30 second solo of their choice. Steph performed a strong latin solo to ‘Conga’ by Gloria Estefan, and won the unanimous vote of all four judges to save her from elimination. Nigel Lythgoe said:

Stephanie appeared with the other top 20 finalists in the first live show of the 2011 BBC dance competition, So You Think You Can Dance!

The first live show was screened on Saturday 2nd April, and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer until 23 April 2011. Click on the logo to the right to watch now! This show was a showcase for each dancer and will not feature an elimination, so you can save your votes for next week.

Stephanie appeared in three dance numbers:
- Opening group number: “Don’t Stop the Music”
- Contemporary quartet: “Bridge Over Troubled Water”
- Girls closing numner: “Fighter”

At the end of the show, Nigel Lythgoe commented that Steph’s contemporary group dance was his favourite of the night! Interestingly, this ‘showcase’ episode was billed as a chance for the dancers to show off their own style, and Stephanie was the only dancer not to do this – she was paired with other dancers in a contemporary routine. You wouldn’t know it wasn’t her style – she was fabulous!

Stephanie has made it through day 1 of Choreography Camp on the 2011 BBC dance competition, So You Think You Can Dance!

She performed alongside Noel Sullivan, as Danny, in her second show with Noel!

We were cut down to 17 boys and 17 girls and had to wait to find out who had made it to the top 20. I was ecstatic when I got the call from Sisquo to say that I had made it, another tick on the wish list! And it was from that moment on that the training began. I began taking class in every style I could afford, it was like retraining. Working as hard as I could to be ready for the live shows on 16th April.

The show later moved to Las Vegas to open the brand new Showroom at the Golden Nugget where Frank Sinatra was famous for performing. Stephanie was promoted to principal dancer and spent a wonderful 10 months in Vegas with the show.
